Prof. Zhisheng Zhang, a renowned scholar of transfusion medicine and former director of the blood service at the Affiliated Hospital of Taiwan University was invited to visit Shanghai Blood Center (SBC) by Prof. Dong Xiang, director of the Blood Typing Reference Laboratory. The visit took place from April 10th to April 15th.

On the morning of April 10th, Mr. Taohong Lu, the President of SBC, Prof. Kaicheng Qian (Medicine Director) as well as Prof. Ping Lu (head of platelet research) held a meeting with Prof. Zhang accompanied by Prof. Xiang. President Lu and Prof. Zhang overviewed the blood banking practices in Shanghai and Taiwan respectively. Prof. Zhang, accompanied by Prof. Xiang, also paid visits to departments related to blood collection and provision in addition to the gallery of SBC history.

During the four day visit, Prof. Zhang took part in the teaching and experiment portions of the immunohematology training class. He also presented two academic lectures on the mornings of April 12th and 13th, entitled 《Drug-induced Hemolytic Anemia》 and《The Crossmatch of Platelets and Strategies for Platelet Transfusion Refractoriness》. Moreover, two discussions with related departments were also held.
