6·14 World Blood Donor Day—Love in Hainan

On June 14, the 16th World Blood Donor Day(WBDD) was celebrated with a variety of activities in Hainan Province. On that night, landscape lights of high-rise curtain wall illuminated brilliantly, over Haikou Bay, for all the blood donors. A light show composed of scrolling red heart and this year’s WBDD slogan Safe Blood for All was displayed constantly to thank all the blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.

Safe Blood for All is this year’s slogan for WBDD , which is also one of the universal goals in blood donation industry. It is essential that all patients have access to timely supplies of safe and quality-assured blood.

At present, donations of at least 400 blood donors are needed daily to meet the basic clinical demands in Hainan Province. Since blood  cannot be artificially manufactured now, only regular voluntary donations could ensure adequate blood supplies.

This event as an integral part of universal public health and a key component of effective health systems served to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations.
