Love without borders: A donation to Italy by China National Bio-tech Group

On February 13, the convalescent plasma therapy, first proposed by China National Bio-tech Group (CNBG) under Sinopharm, was put into clinical practice. CNBG setting up many plasma donation centers across the country that has provided conditions for collection and application of convalescent plasma. Till now convalescent plasma from more than 1000 persons was collected, and hundreds of severe and critical patients have been treated.

 

On March 13, YANG Huichuan, vice president of CSBT and vice president of CNBG, as a Chinese blood products expert, formed a volunteer expert team together with eight members from Red Cross Society of China and Chinese center for Disease Control and Prevention. With 31 tons of medical supplies, after 12 hours and 9619 kilometers of flight, the team finally arrive in Rome to help Italy battle the pandemic. YANG’s trip was to provide technical support and share Chinese experience in convalescent plasma therapy.

 

The expert group successively came to Rome, Padova and Milan to know the local epidemic prevention and control situation and share experience in recruitment of convalescent plasma donors, screening test and virus inactivation of plasma, measures to ensure the safety and effectiveness of plasma and clinical application of treatment.
