Shanghai blood center (SBC) technical staff visit City of Hope Hospital of the United States

Huang Yuwen and Mo Qin, staff of Department of Transfusion Transmitted Diseases, SBC Blood Transfusion Research Institute, visited City of Hope National Medicine Center for academic exchange and discussion from February 9 to 25, 2017. While there, they mainly visited the Transfusion Medicine Center, the Beckman Research Institute and the Office of Technology Licensing. They held discussions with Professor Shirong Wang (Director of the Transfusion Medical Center), Professor Jun Wu (Director of the comparative medicine Animal Tumor Models Program), Professor Wendong Huang (from the Diabetes Complication and Metabolism Research Institute) and Director Ginnie Xu (Office of Technology Licensing) about the feasibility of in vitro pathogen inactivation, the establishment of human hepatitis animal models, and the joint application for PCT patents. They have reached a consensus on the patent cooperation agreement, and the preliminary plan of sending staff members there for collaborative research.

During this trip, they also visited the departments of blood collection and apheresis components collection, the institute’s animal experiment center, and related laboratories. Lead by clinical physicians, they observed plasma exchange treatment, autologous hematopoietic stem cell therapy, and in vitro photochemical treatment of lymphocytes for GVHD and autoimmune diseases. Although their schedule was compact, they accomplished a lot from this visit. The stringent management system for U.S. hospital and scientific research institutions, and the rigorous, friendly and high quality staff also left them with a deep impression.
