Panda Man’s Last Blood Donation

Mr.Pierre, widely recognized as the Panda Man, is an Australian national with Rh-negative blood type and permanent residency in China. Since 2008, he has maintained a consistent schedule of apheresis platelet donation every 15 days, completing a total of 333 donations-equivalent to 653 therapeutic units-as well as 5 whole blood donations totaling 2,000 mL. He has been conferred the National Lifetime Honor Award for Voluntary Blood Donation.

His story of blood donation has gained widespread recognition. However, November 12, 2025, is a day of significance for Mr.Pierre. In accordance with the age requirements in the Blood Donation Law, this day will mark the successful conclusion of his 17-year blood donation adventure.

On the special day, Tianjin Blood Center hosted a retirement ceremony in recognition of Mr.Pierres long-term contributions to voluntary blood donation. ZHANG Rongjiang, Director of Tianjin Blood Center, extended his respect and gratitude for Mr.Pierres selfless and borderless dedication. Subsequently, he presented Mr.Pierre with a commemorative plaque for blood donation and appointed him as an honorary staff member of Tianjin Blood Center.

At the ceremony, Gao Jie, Director of the Tianjin Blood Center, presented certificates to authors including Mr.Pierre, who were selected for inclusion in the book Voluntary Blood Donation in Tianjin. Following the conclusion of the ceremony, Mr.Pierre donated platelets alongside students from Tianjin University of Sport and other voluntary blood donors. After the ceremony, Pi joined student volunteers from Tianjin University of Sport in donating platelets one final time. At his final blood donation, Mr.Pierre made a poignant statement: "Blood donation is an act of mutual assistance. My blood may aid your family, and your blood may aid mine."
